JTET Eligibility 2026: The Jharkhand Academic Council (JAC) conducts the Jharkhand Teacher Eligibility Test (JTET) for candidates who wish to teach Classes 1st to 8th in schools across Jharkhand. Those planning to appear for the exam should understand the eligibility criteria before starting the application process. Jharkhand TET eligibility criteria include age limit, educational qualifications, nationality, and other requirements that must be fulfilled by all aspirants. JTET Exam Eligibility 2026

JAC conducts the exam at two levels: JTET Level 1 and JTET Level 2. JTET Level 1 is for Primary Teacher who intends to teach classes I to V, and Level 2 is for Upper Primary Teachers for classes VI to VIII. The categorisation of the eligibility criteria is as follows:

Note: Candidates who applied during the JTET 2024 cycle and completed the full application process are eligible to reapply for the 2026 cycle without paying the examination fee again.

JTET Exam Age Limit 2026

For the 2026 cycle, the age criteria are as follows:

  • Minimum Age: Candidates must be at least 21 years old as of 1st of August of the exam year.
  • Maximum Age: There is generally no upper age limit for applicants. However, Assistant Teachers (Para Teachers) with at least two years of continuous service under the Jharkhand Education Project Council are eligible for relaxation up to 58 years.
  • One-time Relaxation: Candidates who exceeded the standard age limits due to delays in previous exam cycles may receive a special one-time relaxation.

JTET Educational Qualification 2026

The educational qualification criteria should be fulfilled by the candidates before applying for the exam. Qualifications for Papers I and II can be checked below:

JTET Paper I (Class I to Class V Primary) Qualification: Candidates should meet one of the following qualifications:

  • Candidate should have a 12th with minimum 45% marks along with 2 years Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed.) or
  • 12th with at least 45% marks and a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed) or
  • 12th with at least 50% marks and a 4-year Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed) or
  • Senior Secondary with at least 50% marks and a 2-year Diploma in Special Education or
  • Graduation (BA/B.Sc) with at least 50% marks and a B.Ed degree

JTET Paper II (Upper Primary Stage: Classes VI-VIII) Qualification: Candidates must meet one of the following:

  • Graduation with 45% marks and a 2-year D.El.Ed (passed or appearing in the final year) or
  • Graduation with at least 50% marks and a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) or
  • Senior Secondary with at least 50% marks and 4 years B.El.Ed or integrated B.A.Ed./B.Sc.Ed or
  • B.A. (Education)/B.Sc. (Education) or B.Ed (Special Education) with 50% marks or
  • Post-Graduation with at least 55% marks and 3 years integrated B.Ed-M.Ed

Note: It is now compulsory for the general candidates to pass Class 10th/12th from a recognised institution of Jharkhand State to be eligible for the JTET exam. Along with that, they should have knowledge of the culture, language, and environment of Jharkhand. Reserved categories are exempted from this rule.

JTET Exam Nationality

  • Nationality: Must be a citizen of India.
  • Local Residency Rule: General category candidates must have completed their Class 10th and 12th from a recognised institution within the State of Jharkhand. They must also demonstrate knowledge of local customs, language, and the environment of Jharkhand.
  • Exemptions: Reserved category candidates (SC/ST/OBC/PwD) are exempt from the mandatory Jharkhand-based schooling rule.

Only the candidates who have satisfied all the eligibility conditions and have successfully submitted the application form can download the JTET Admit Card from the official website.

JTET Number of Attempts

The Jharkhand Academic Council has specified no restrictions on the maximum number of attempts to appear in the JTET examination.
