The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) releases the CTET Eligibility Criteria 2026 along with the CTET Notification. CTET Nationality
Before moving a candidate to the next selection stage of CTET, higher authorities first verify various CTET Qualifications, one of which is their nationality. CTET Age Limit 2026
According to the latest CTET eligibility criteria, applicants are required to match the prescribed age limit set by the Central Board of Secondary Education. Meeting the age requirement is a crucial part of the eligibility process, as only candidates within the specified age range are considered qualified to apply for the CTET exam and proceed with the selection process.
- Minimum Age- 17 years.
- Maximum Age- No limit.
As such, there are no age-limit criteria mentioned in the official notification released by CTET in the notification. However, candidates must be in possession of the required CTET educational qualifications to appear in the exam. Teachers who are already in service can also appear in the examination to test their knowledge and skills.

CTET Exam Educational Qualification Criteria for Paper 1 and Paper 2
According to the CTET eligibility rules, the academic qualifications needed for Paper 1 and Paper 2 vary from each other. Candidates should ensure that they satisfy all the requirements necessary for their selected paper. Paper 1 is for candidates intending to teach Classes 1 to 5, whereas Paper 2 targets Classes 6 to 8. CTET Paper 1 Eligibility
According to the eligibility for CTET Paper 1, candidates with the following qualifications can appear for Paper 1 of the Central Teacher Eligibility Test. Candidates must have cleared or still pursuing the final year of 2 years Diploma in Elementary Education (with a minimum of 50% marks) from a recognised University/Institution.
OR
Applicants must have cleared or are still pursuing the final year of 2 years Diploma in Elementary Education (with a minimum of 45% marks) in accordance with the NCTE, Regulations, 2002.
OR
Aspirants must have cleared or are still pursuing the final year of a 4-year Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education (B.El.Ed) from a recognised University/Institution (with at least 50% marks).
OR
Candidates must have cleared or are still pursuing the final year of 2 years Diploma in Special Education(with at least 50% marks) from a recognised University/Institution.
OR
Candidates must have cleared the Graduation (with at least 50% marks) and Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) from a recognised University/Institution.

CTET Paper 2 Eligibility
The CTET Educational Qualification for Paper 2 requires that candidates must have passed graduation (with minimum 50% marks) and passed or appeared in the first year of Bachelor's in Education (B.Ed) from a recognised University/Institution. Candidates with one of the following qualifications can also apply:
Candidates must have cleared the Graduation (with a minimum of 45% marks) and passed or appeared in 1 year of a bachelor's Degree in Education (B.Ed), in accordance with the NCTE Regulations in Education (B.Ed).
OR
Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and Candidates must have cleared the Graduation of a 4-year Bachelor's in Elementary Education (B.EI.Ed).
OR
Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks, and Candidates must have cleared the Graduation of a 4-year B.A/B.Sc.Ed or B.A.Ed./B.Sc.Ed.
OR
Graduation with at least 50% marks and Candidates must have cleared or appeared in a 1-year B.Ed. (Special Education).
OR
Candidates must have cleared the Graduation in B.Ed. Programs recognized by the NCTE are eligible to appear in TET/CTET.

Is B.Ed Compulsory For the CTET Exam?
No, a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) degree is not compulsory for the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) exam. However, to be eligible to appear for the CTET exam, the candidate must have a minimum educational qualification of a Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) degree with at least 50% marks and passed or appear in the final year of a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education or 4-year Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed) or a 2-year Diploma in Education (Special Education). So, while a B.Ed degree is not mandatory, candidates must have the necessary qualifications mentioned above to appear for the CTET exam.
Can B.Tech Students Apply for CTET?
Yes, B.Tech students can apply for the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) if they meet the eligibility criteria set by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). The eligibility criteria for appearing in CTET are as follows:
For Primary Stage (Classes I to V):
The candidate should have passed Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and should have passed or appeared in the final year of a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education or Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed) or 4-year Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.EI.Ed) or 2-year Diploma in Education (Special Education)*.
For Elementary Stage (Classes VI to VIII):
The candidate should have a graduation degree and should have passed or appeared in the final year of a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education or Bachelor in Education (B.Ed) or 4-year Bachelor in Elementary Education (B.EI.Ed) or 2-year Diploma in Education (Special Education)*. Therefore, if a B.Tech student has also completed or is pursuing a teacher education course recognised by NCTE or RCI, they can appear for the CTET exam.
*Note: A candidate who is pursuing any of the teacher education courses (recognised by the NCTE or the RCI, as the case may be) specified above can also appear in the CTET.
CTET July 2026 Eligibility: Reservation Criteria
For the General category, Candidates who score 60% marks in the examination will be considered qualified. There will be a 5% relaxation of the qualifying marks in the minimum Educational Qualification for you if you belong to SC/ST/OBC/Person with Disabilities category.
A good thing for all the appearing candidates is that there is no negative marking for a wrong attempted question.
CTET Eligibility: Experience

CTET Exam Pattern 2026
The CTET Exam consists of two papers conducted for candidates who wish to become teachers at different school levels. Paper I is for candidates aspiring to teach Classes I to V (Primary Level), while Paper II is for those who wish to teach Classes VI to VIII (Elementary Level). CTET Paper 2 or Elementary Stage is conducted for the teachers applying for Classes 6 to 8. CTET Exam Pattern - Nature & Standard of Questions of CTET Paper 2 Examination
The candidates must know the nature and standard of questions that will come in the CTET exam. So, here we have provided it in a point-wise manner. Go through it carefully.
- The test items on Child Development and Pedagogy will focus on the educational psychology of teaching and learning, relevant to the age group of 11-14 years. They will focus on understanding the characteristics, needs, and psychology of diverse learners, interaction with learners, and the attributes and qualities of a good facilitator of learning.
- The test items in Mathematics and Science and Social Studies/Social Science will focus on the concepts, problem-solving abilities, and pedagogical understanding and applications of the subjects. The test items of Mathematics and Science will be of 30 marks each. The test items will be evenly distributed over different divisions of the syllabus of that subject as prescribed for classes 6 to 8 by the NCERT.
- The questions in the test for Paper 2 will be based on the topics prescribed in the CTET exam pattern and syllabus of the NCERT for classes 6 to 8 but their difficulty standard, as well as linkages, could be up to the Senior Secondary stage.
