The WB SET Eligibility Criteria 2025 offer flexibility, particularly in terms of age, as there is no upper age limit, allowing candidates of all ages to apply. The Commission has not kept any upper age limit to appear for the WB SET Exam. However, candidates must note that for the purpose of recruitment, the relevant Government Order will be applicable, as specified in the official notification.

The following are the minimum education qualification required to be eligible to appear for the West Bengal state eligibility test .

• The candidates must have a Masters Degree OR equivalent examination with at least 55% of marks from a recognized university/institution (50% for OBC-NCL, SC, ST, PWD candidates).
• Candidates in the final year of Masters degree are also eligible to apply.
• The Ph.D. degree holders whose Master’s level examination had been completed by 19th September 1991 shall be eligible for a relaxation of 5% in aggregate marks (i.e. from 55% to 50%) for appearing in SET.

• The candidates who are belonging to the third gender (transgender category) would be eligible to draw the same relaxation in fee and qualifying criteria for SET as are available to SC/ST/PWD categories. Also, the subject-wise cut-offs for this category should be the lowest among those for SC/ST/PWD/OBC/EWS categories in the corresponding subject.
• Candidates are required to appear for WB SET Exam only in the subject that they have done their Post Graduation in. In case the subject of a candidate is not included in the list of WB SET Syllabus and list of subjects, then those candidates may appear in UGC NET/Joint CSIR-UGC Test which is held twice a year

• Candidates who have passed the UGC/CSIR JRF examination prior to 1989 are exempted from appearing in the NET/SET exam
