PPSC PCS Exam Pattern 2025
The PPSC PCS recruitment comprises three stages. Candidates clearing the first stage are considered eligible for the second one. Then candidates who clear the second stage are considered eligible for the third stage of the PPSC PCS. Candidates are urged to make note of the exam pattern for better preparation for the exam. The exam pattern for PPSC Exam 2025 is expected to remain the same as per previous cycle. Any changes to the same would be notified via the official notification, which is yet to be released. The three stages of the PPSC PCS exam are:
- Preliminary Examination
- Main Examination
- Interview Round

PPSC PCS Exam Pattern 2025

PPSC PCS Prelims Exam Pattern 2025
Preliminary Examination is only a screening test for selecting candidates who would be eligible to take the Main Examination and the marks obtained in this examination shall not be counted towards the merit of the candidates arrived at after the Main Examination. Candidates equal to 13 times the vacancies advertised in each category would qualify from amongst those appearing in the Preliminary Examination for the Main Examination. The standard of questions would be to test the knowledge as is expected of a person who has attained education at least up to graduation level.The exam pattern for PPSC Prelims Exam 2025 is expected to remain the same as per previous recruitment cycle. Any changes to this would be updated here. In the PPSC Prelims Examination, both the papers are as follows.

PPSC PCS Prelims Exam Pattern 2025

- Each question holds a weightage of 2 marks each.
- There is no negative marking, however, there may be negative marking for any objections to the Answer Key found false/frivolous/not supported by authentic evidence.
- The question paper shall be bilingual and shall be printed in English and Punjabi except for questions where candidates’ proficiency in the language is to be tested.
Paper I
- Paper I is Objective type questions(MCQs) based on General Studies.
- There are 100 questions asked for 200 marks.
- Each question holds a weightage of 2 marks each.
- There is no negative marking, however, there may be negative marking for any objections to the Answer Key found false/frivolous/not supported by authentic evidence.
- The question paper shall be bilingual and shall be printed in English and Punjabi except for questions where candidates’ proficiency in the language is to be tested.
Paper-II

- All papers shall be descriptive in nature.
- The main competitive examination shall include seven compulsory papers.
- Candidates will have the option to attempt all the papers, except the language papers in Punjabi or English medium.
- Candidates exercising the option to answer Papers in the Punjabi language may, if they so desire, give the English version within brackets of only the description of the technical terms, if any, in addition to the version in the Punjabi language.
- The question papers other than language papers will be set in English. However, when any candidate opts for attempting any paper(s) in Punjabi medium, the question papers shall be printed in Punjabi accordingly.

Only the candidates who have cleared the written examination and fulfil the eligibility criteria will be called for the interview round. The interview will be of 150 marks. Marks obtained in the interview, along with the marks obtained in the written exam, will be considered for the final merit list.
Note: No candidate shall be eligible for the interview round unless he/she obtains 45% marks in the aggregate of all the papers (40% for the candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes), including at least 25% marks in each paper.
- For each category, candidates up to three times the number of openings must be certified qualified to sit the viva voce test.
- An Interview Board consisting of the Chairman and Members of the Commission, as well as an independent expert, will conduct the viva voce test. To interview the candidates, multiple Interview Boards may be put up. When an Interview Board is not led by the Chairman of the Commission, the most senior member serves as Chairman of the Board.

PPSC PCS Interview Process 2024 (Expected)
Only the candidates who have qualified the written examination and fulfill the eligibility criteria will be called for an interview. The interview will contain 150 as maximum marks. The marks obtained in the interview together with the marks obtained in the written exam will be considered for the final merit list.
The viva voce test will be held for the applicants who receive the highest aggregate marks in the written part of the Main Competitive Examination, which must be at least three times the number of vacancies. In the case that two or more applicants are tied for first place, the order of merit will be determined by the highest viva voce score. For each category, up to three times the number of vacancies must be deemed qualified to sit the viva voce test.
An Interview Board consisting of the Chairman and Members of the Commission, as well as an outside expert, will conduct the viva voce test. To interview the candidates, multiple Interview Boards may be put up.
The interview panelist will assess the candidate's honesty and spontaneity in responding to questions, as well as the candidate's confidence, communication skills, mental alertness, logical thinking, judgment ability, and leadership abilities.
The interview style will not be a strict cross-examination, but rather a natural, yet focused and purposeful conversation, with the goal of revealing the candidate's mental capabilities. The interview test is not intended to be a measure of the candidates' specific or general knowledge, which should have already been assessed through their written papers.
Candidates are expected to have shown an intelligent interest not only in their specific academic subjects, but also in current events both within and outside their own State or country, as well as in modern currents of thought and new discoveries that should pique the interest of well-educated youth.
Note: No candidate shall be eligible to appear in the interview unless he/she obtains 45% marks in the aggregate of all the papers (read 40 % for the candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes) including at least 25% marks in each paper.

Punjab Civil Services Exam 2025 - Interview Round
- Candidates will be presented with questions on various topics related to their level of understanding based on their previous experience.
- Personality test and test to assess one’s suitability and understanding for higher managerial roles.
- Only Candidates who have qualified for the written examination and fulfil the eligibility criteria will be called for an interview. The interview will contain 150 as maximum marks. The marks obtained in the interview together with the marks obtained in the written exam will be considered for the final merit list.
- The candidates not more than three times the number of vacancies advertised in each category shall be called for the interview, provided they have appeared and qualified for the Main Written Examination.
- The names of the qualified candidates shall be arranged in order of merit. These arrangements will be made according to the aggregate marks obtained from the Main Examination and Interview.
Note: No candidate shall be eligible to appear in the interview unless he/she obtains 45% marks in the aggregate of all the papers (read 40 % for the candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes) including at least 25% marks in each paper.
