OSSC CHSL Eligibility – Important Points

- Nationality: The candidate must be a citizen of India.
- Age Limit: The age limit for different categories may vary. Usually, the minimum age will be 21 years and 42 years will be the maximum age for the candidates to apply (as on 01.01.2023). However, age relaxations are provided for candidates according to their category.
Note: For the post of Technical Assistant the minimum age is 20 years, while the maximum is the same as all other posts i.e, 42 years.
- Educational Qualification: The minimum educational qualification required is usually 10+2 (Higher Secondary) or equivalent from a recognized board or university.

SSC CHSL Syllabus 2026 and Exam Pattern: Overview
Before getting into the detailed subject-wise syllabus, candidates must understand the structure of the SSC CHSL exam . The SSC CHSL Syllabus for Tier 1 exam will consist of subjects like General Intelligence, General Awareness, Quantitative Aptitude and English Comprehension. SSC CHSL Exam Pattern 2026
The SSC CHSL Exam has different stages to select candidates for posts such as Lower Division Clerk (LDC), Data Entry Operator (DEO), and Junior Secretariat Assistant (JSA).
- In Tier 1, the exam is held as a computer-based objective test. Candidates have to answer multiple-choice questions from the main subjects.
- Tier 2 also includes a computer-based test, followed by a skill test or typing test depending on the post a candidate has applied for.
SSC CHSL Tier 1 Exam Pattern

SSC CHSL Tier III Skill Test
As per the SSC Syllabus 2026, the SSC CHSL 2026 Skill Test for DEO/DEO Grade A is a qualifying Data Entry Speed Test conducted on a computer to assess candidates’ typing speed and accuracy. For candidates in specific Departments or Ministries such as C&AG, Consumer Affairs, and Culture, the requirement is 15,000 key depressions per hour using an English passage of 3,700–4,000 key depressions within 15 minutes. For other Departments, the standard is 8,000 key depressions per hour with a 2,000–2,200 key-depression passage. Scribe-eligible candidates are allowed 5 extra minutes, making the total duration 20 minutes.
