JKPSC KAS Career Growth and Promotion
Working in a Government job, you can be assured of steady career growth and job security. There is a lot of scope for career growth and promotion in the JKPSC KAS Department. For this process, internal exams and promotions are held regularly. Those who wish to get promoted can apply to these exams. It is essential to keep up the good work even after getting promoted. As regards the career growth of KAS officers, it depends on the age where one gets into the service. Assuming that the average age of the candidates qualifying the services is 27 years and all goes well without any seniority disputes or other hiccups, one should travel up to the rank of Secretary to Government by the time one retires on superannuation, which is quite a good position. However, only three posts of Secretary are reserved for KAS officers (generally the senior most officers are posted as secretaries). Other than that, one can't be promoted to the secretary-to-government level until one gets the IAS by promotion.
In police service, one should reach the level of Inspector General of Police (IGP) if one enters at a comparatively younger age. Many of the 1984 batch KPS have retired as IGPs after getting into IPS from the promotion quota. Some of them work as IGPs.
The accounts officer may retire as HOD (like Director General Accounts and Treasuries (although there's only one such post to the best of my knowledge) in the department. However, many equivalent posts have been created as on date.
